Assoc. Prof. Dr. Berkay Akmaz

Ophthalmology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Berkay Akmaz was born in Izmir in 1985. He completed his medical education at Ege University Faculty of Medicine and, after ranking 25th nationwide in Turkey in the Medical Specialty Examination (TUS) in 2010, began his residency at Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Kartal Training and Research Hospital, Department of Ophthalmology and Eye Surgery.

He earned the title of "Ophthalmology Specialist" in 2014. Following his residency, he served at prominent medical centers such as Katip Çelebi University Atatürk Training and Research Hospital, Manisa City Hospital, and Izmir Bozyaka Training and Research Hospital. During this period, he performed thousands of surgeries in the fields of cornea, cataract, refractive surgery, ocular surface diseases, and retina.

In 2019, he further enhanced his surgical expertise by participating in the Vitreoretinal Surgical Techniques Mini-Fellowship Program in Germany. In 2021, his academic competence was certified by the Council of Higher Education with the title of Associate Professor in Ophthalmology and Eye Surgery.

That same year, backed by a TÜBİTAK postdoctoral research fellowship, he conducted scientific research and clinical applications for one year in the fields of "Cornea, Cataract, Ocular Surface, and Refractive Surgery" at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University in the United States. Actively contributing to scientific studies, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Akmaz has authored over 40 articles published in national and international peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and editorial works.

He holds the FEBO (Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology) title awarded by the European Board of Ophthalmology and the FICO (Fellow of the International Council of Ophthalmology) title awarded by the International Council of Ophthalmology. Additionally, he is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Ophthalmology (MRCed).

Currently serving patients at his private clinic in Izmir, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Berkay Akmaz provides diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical services across all areas of eye health, backed by over 15 years of experience, tens of thousands of surgical cases, and continuously updated medical infrastructure. He adopts a personal, trust-based treatment approach supported by modern technology as his guiding principle.
