Assoc. Prof. Dr. Berkay Akmaz

Ophthalmology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Berkay Akmaz was born in 1985 in İzmir. He completed his medical education at Ege University Faculty of Medicine and ranked 25th in Turkey in the 2010 Medical Specialization Examination, after which he started his residency training at the Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Kartal Training and Research Hospital, Department of Ophthalmology and Surgery. He received the title of “Ophthalmology Specialist” in 2014.

After specialization, he worked at prestigious institutions such as Katip Çelebi University Atatürk Training and Research Hospital, Manisa City Hospital, and İzmir Bozyaka Training and Research Hospital. During this period, he performed thousands of surgeries in the fields of cornea, cataract, refractive surgery, ocular surface diseases, and retina.

In 2019, he enhanced his surgical experience by participating in the Mini-Fellowship Program on Vitreoretinal Surgical Techniques in Germany; and in 2021, his academic competence was certified by the Turkish Council of Higher Education with the title of Associate Professor in Ophthalmology and Surgery.

In the same year, with a TÜBİTAK postdoctoral research scholarship, he conducted scientific research and clinical studies for one year in the fields of “Cornea, Cataract, Ocular Surface, and Refractive Surgery” at the Johns Hopkins University Wilmer Eye Institute in the United States.

Actively contributing to scientific research, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Akmaz has authored over 40 articles published in national and international peer-reviewed journals, as well as book chapters and editorial works.

He holds the FEBO (Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology) and FICO (Fellow of the International Council of Ophthalmology) titles, and he is also a member of the Edinburgh Council of Ophthalmic Surgery (MRCed).

Today, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Berkay Akmaz provides services at his private clinic in İzmir, offering diagnosis, treatment, and surgical care across all areas of eye health, backed by over 15 years of experience, tens of thousands of surgical cases, and continuously updated medical technology.
