    Ophthalmology Specialist – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Berkay Akmaz was born in 1985 in Izmir. Due to his father’s profession, he spent his primary school years in different cities. In 2003, he started his education at Gülhane Military Medical Academy. In 2010, he graduated from Ege University Medical Faculty with the title of Doctor of Medicine.

    In 2010, as a result of the Medical Specialization Exam (TUS), he ranked 25th in Turkey and started his specialization training in Ophthalmology at Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Kartal Training and Research Hospital. He completed his specialty training in 2014.

    Is Laser (Femtosecond) Cataract Surgery Safe?

    Femtosecond laser technology provides high precision in cataract surgery and is safer compared to traditional methods. Therefore, the healing process is also faster.

    In glaucoma treatment, medication, laser treatment, and surgical methods are used. The treatment selected depends on the patient’s condition and the progression of the glaucoma.

    The recovery period after excimer laser surgery typically ranges from a few days to a week. However, achieving full vision clarity may take several weeks.

    CXL (Collagen Cross-Linking) is a treatment performed to stop the progression of keratoconus. The ring (Intracorneal Ring Segments) application is a method to improve vision by reshaping the cornea.

    Smart lenses are suitable for patients undergoing cataract surgery who want clear vision at far, intermediate, and near distances. Trifocal and multifocal lenses correct both distance and near vision, while toric lenses are preferred for patients with astigmatism.
